GCSE (9-1) Business

Why study Business?

In recent years, Business has become an increasingly popular subject choice at GCSE level.

Students at St Dominic’s learn about business by following the AQA exam board syllabus and in our latest exam results, 100% of students receive a Grade 5 and above.

In every lesson students equip themselves with a wide knowledge of business concepts and terminology. Covering core subjects such as real word business, influences on business, operations, HR, marketing and finance, students focus on applying their knowledge to analyse, evaluate and make justified business recommendations on different businesses. Students learn about business behaviour, the integrated nature of business activity and its impact on wider society.

In addition students continue to develop skills in numeracy, literacy and ICT, whilst benefitting from developing transferable skills as well. From conducting research to presentation skills, teamwork, group study, practical activities and trips to visit businesses, St Dominic’s encourages enterprising individuals to use their ability to think commercially and creatively, to demonstrate business acumen and make informed business decisions and solve business problems.

Our specialised teacher that leads the course has both an academic and commercial background using a wealth of relevant business content to make learning a highly interactive experience.

St Dominic’s students go on to study business at A level and BTEC at local 6th forms and colleges. Others who take up Apprenticeships use the experience of studying business to enhance their career opportunities and improve their employability.
