Outdoor Learning

Outdoor learning

Outdoor Learning is a very important part of our EYFS Curriculum at St Dominic’s Priory School. The outdoor environment provides rich, dynamic and natural space for learning and development in children of all ages and is an essential learning resource. Outdoor learning offers opportunities for children to do things in various ways and on different scales compared to what they learn in the classroom. Children have the freedom to explore and investigate the natural world around them including the weather and seasons.

Early Years pupils have access to the beautiful grounds of St Dominic’s Convent, as well as their own outdoor learning areas. Our Nursery has its own playground that backs onto the canal, whilst Reception have a useful messy hands-on area.

St Dominic’s Priory school is currently involved in the national Eco- schools project which involves children of all ages. Through the project the children learn about gardening and sustainability.

Throughout the year, staff arrange a number of varied educational visits outside of the classroom, which the children greatly enjoy.
