Some of our senior tennis team girls and boys enjoyed a fantastic day at a blazing hot Wimbledon last Friday.
As we arrived the excitement levels rose as Roger Federer and Dan Evans were seen knocking up together on the practice court beside the minibus park.
Novak Djokovic, last year's champion walked past - student cameras not at the ready. Amateurs!
Photo, autograph and selfie modes quickly switched on.
Cori Gauff, Jo-Wilfred Tsonga, Pierre Hugues-Herbert, Milos Raonic, Matteo Berrettini, Diego Schwartman, Andy Murray and Serena Williams were all spotted on or around the practice court area during the day.
Caroline Wozniacki (14th Seed) and Shuai Zhang were first up on Court 2. Zhang's heavier and more accurate groundstrokes proving to be too good for Wozniacki, who later made a bizarre claim in defeat that the hawk-eye line computer system needed looking at.
David Goffin (21) followed and fought back to beat Daniil Medvedev (11) in the final set. Finally, Bautista Agut continued the seeding upsets on Court 2 in beating the Russian, Khachanov (10).
With two centre court tickets shared between the group across the day, students saw at various times, Anderson v Pella, Azarenka v Halep and the hottest ticket in town match, Hercog v Gauff.
The most obliging and rather gorgeous Fernando Verdasco acquiesced to a lovely group photo as he was being whisked by with the security guards. Mediterranean looks!
Strawberries and ice cream for all. Thank you Mr & Mrs H!
News quickly spread that Cori Gauff was fighting back. Spectators flocked to Henman Hill to watch the big screen. What an atmosphere! The incredibly packed hill were willing the 15 year old to win the tie break to go into the third set. The crowd erupted as she levelled the match.
Time to leave sadly, but with modern gadgets the students were still watching and cheering Cori to victory as we headed north and home.
