Despite a rain affected day, some of our senior tennis team players thoroughly enjoyed their visit to the Wimbledon Tennis Championships.
Sam Querrey, Thomas Berdych, Marin Cilic, Giles Muller and Heather Watson were all spotted on the practice courts.
Just as we took our seats for the start of play on Court 1, the heavens opened. Was the forecast going to be correct as we feared?
Fortunately, the rain blew over and Garbine Muguruza (14th Seed) and Svetlana Kuzsnetsova (17th) were first up in the women's quarter-finals. In a very entertaining and closely contested match, Muguruza's greater consistency and determination saw off Kuznetsova's challenge in two sets 6-3, 6-4.
Coco Vandeweghe, coached by Pat Cash, followed against Magdalena Rybarikova. Vandeweghe displayed the greater power but was rather error prone. With Rybarikova closing in on victory, the rain returned.
After strawberries and cream, and a competitive visit to the Play Tennis Batak Reaction Game and Serve Speed Challenge, our day sadly came to an end with the rain set in for the evening.
A fantastic experience, made even better for having seen the eventual ladies winner.
